Special Education

All children have the innate ability to learn, but at Lotus Lake International School, we understand that learning is most effective and enjoyable when it happens at a pace and in a way that the child is comfortable with. Our school has a counselling department that understands that each child is unique in their own way and that the conventional one-size-fits-all approach needs to be disregarded in order to realize this.

In order to meet each child's needs and provide a welcoming learning environment for all students, our counselling team's specially trained and qualified counsellors, remedial educators, and special educators collaborate with the teachers and parents.

What is inclusive education?

In its simplest form, inclusive education refers to a learning environment where students with and without comorbidities attend classes together. The concept of inclusion refers to equity and equality, i.e., giving all students the same opportunities while taking into account their worries and difficulties and developing strategies to support them in dealing with those.

At Lotus Lake International School, students from diverse backgrounds and varying physical and cognitive concerns are part of the same classroom. The course is designed to give every student, regardless of their difficulties, an equal chance to learn, develop, and thrive. Students with special needs can interact with and learn from their peers and develop in a setting where students learn to accept and celebrate their differences thanks to the students' encouragement to participate and collaborate.

Is my child eligible for special needs education at Lotus Lake International School?

We are able to accommodate students with a range of special needs because our school is inclusive. As an online school, we are aware of our limitations, so there are some subjects in which we are not the best choice for your child.

If your child suffers from any of the following physical or mental issues, we can assist them:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (mild to moderate)
  • Asperger's Syndrome
  • Specific Learning Disabilities (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia)
  • Developmental Delays
  • Intellectual Disabilities (Moderate level)
  • Health concerns
  • Orthopaedic Concerns
  • Speech or Language Impairments
  • Emotional Concerns
  • Partial Concerns with Vision
  • Differentiated learners

During the admissions process, parents are required to submit pertinent medical and psychological assessment reports. Since every child is different and has strengths and areas for development, this is not an exhaustive list. In order to determine whether the school will be able to meet your child's unique needs before admission, we employ an interviewing process.

What are the services that my child is eligible to receive?

There is a counseling department at our school that is open to all students. It is reactive as well as preventive. To address the various behavioral, emotional, academic, and adjustment issues a student may be experiencing, the counselors create a tailored action plan. The student-friendly implementation of these plans follows.

According to their requirements, special needs students can receive the services listed below.

1) Counselling Interventions - The counseling department provides individual and group counseling to students with special needs within the scope of the action plan developed. They provide short-term, goal-focused counseling in instances where it is required. These sessions mainly aim to support them and equip the students with the skills they need to navigate their concerns.

2) Counselling Interventions - An approach to teaching wherein the aim is to bridge the gaps in learning by using modes/techniques with which the student is comfortable. A remedial educator goes down to the level of the student and works with their strengths to cement the learning.

3) Counselling Interventions - Assistance during assessments and concessions gauged based on the needs of the students.

4) Consultation - Offers an opportunity for parents to reach out to the counselors and seek their support all year round. The department constantly strives to psychoeducate and guide parents concerning adaptations and modifications needed to assist their child.

5) Advocacy - Working with all the individuals in the child's ecosystem to have a comfortable and happy year ahead.

How will my child be assisted in the classroom?

First and foremost, we educate all the teachers who work with your child about their unique needs. They are made aware of the child's worries as part of the sensitization training, which also focuses on their strengths and areas for development. For each student, we develop a personalised education plan.

This plan includes:

  • Differentiated instructions
  • Teaching methodology
  • Remedial education
  • Individualised assessments
  • Concessions regarding leaves
  • Assignments, assessments
  • Extracurricular activities like art, dance, and yoga based on the child's needs.

We aim to push and challenge them like their peers, which helps them grow in their own way while being mindful of their worries and providing for their needs. As a result, every student has the same chance to take part in both academic and extracurricular activities.
